Guwahati: A minimum of 10 Professional Commando battalions, comparable with NSG, to be formed in Assam, informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
Addressing a press convention at Kohora in Kaziranga, CM Sarma said, “The new force shall be trained to care for emerging crimes and rising need for an extra police force. The Director-General of police will look into the phasing part. These kinds of professional commando battalions will be posted at the critical areas which come with the Assam-Nagaland border, touchy areas of Tinsukia district, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Hills district of Assam, etc.”
The chief minister earlier attended a day-long Superintendents of police convention in Kohora.
The convention used to be designed to speak about ways of modernizing the police force in wake of new forms of crimes being spotted by Police.
Following the convention, the chief minister directed the Assam police branch to introduce two shifts duty at all police stations so as to minimize the workload on police personnel.
CM Sarma also informed that around 23,000 civil police personnel and 12,000 commando police personnel will be added to the system. Recruitment rules for appointment into police forces will be modified to herald more professionally qualified and skilled manpower into the system.
Making an allowance for the welfare of police personnel, police quarters will be constructed, informed the Chief Minister.
