16 students in DU tests positive; 3 hostels declared containment zone


Guwahati: Altogether 16 students of Dibrugarh University (DU) tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, compelling health authorities to declare three hostels as containment zones.

Following the cases, the authorities have canceled all ongoing and upcoming examinations in the university.

In a notification, Dibrugarh University controller of examinations PK Kakoty said, all postgraduate (PG) examinations (both tradition and professional) including Integrated MSc in Physics stands postponed.

In a similar fashion, all undergraduate (UG) professional examinations including BEd, B Tech, LLB, BA LLB (H), BCom LLB (H), and BBA LLB (H) stand postponed.

Meantime, in the final 24 hours, four people died at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh because of COVID-19.

Assam on Friday recorded 2,384 fresh cases of COVID-19 along side 10 fatalities.

The new cases were detected out of 72,405 conducted in the final 24 hours, of which Kamrup Metro recorded 883 cases, Kamrup Rural at 159, Dibrugarh at 154, and Nagaon at 100.

The deaths have been reported from Kamrup Metro (5), Kokrajhar (2), Dibrugarh (1), Hojai (1), Jorhat (1), Kamrup Rural (1), and Udalguri (1). The complete fatalities in the state touched 1,172.

The state’s overall caseload now stood at 2,33,453 with a positivity rate of 3.29%, while, the recovery rate stands at 93.53%.
