A 70 feet effigy of Ravana will be set to flames in Assam’s North Guwahati as part of Dussehra celebrations on October 8th, 2019.
Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra is a major Hindu festival celebrated at the end of Navratri annually. It is observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin or Kartik. Vijaya Dashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
A bulk of crackers worth several lakh have been brought from Barpeta for the celebration. A young artisan, Ramen Baruah has designed the Ravana and the estimated cost used to be Rs 1 lakh.
“It took me a month to total the whole constitution. I have used thermocol, bamboo sheets, bamboo, paper, glue etc to make it,” said Ramen while talking to This correspondence.
