Assam CM buys earthen lamps to celebrate Diwali; promotes pottery industry


Guwahati: A day ahead of the festival of lights, Diwali, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal used to be seen buying earthen lamps at Kamakhya Gate area in the city on Friday.

In a tender to elevate native artisan and the pottery industry, the minister urged the people to shop for earthen lamps instead of the usage of Chinese products to celebrate the festival this year.

Later, speaking to the media persons, Sonowal said, “We need to set our goals lucid and strive tough for capturing global market by adequately specializing in indigenous products and producing quality goods.”

The minister further added that the native pottery industry had tremendous potential and there used to be a wish to promote the people involved in this industry.
