Guwahati: With coronavirus cases going down in the state, the Assam government on Monday made up our minds re-open schools and institutions from January 1, 2021.
The education branch has issued a set of fresh SOPs to be followed after the schools and institutions open.
“The comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will come into force from 1st January, 2021 until further orders,” an official order stated.
The government of Assam had extended the Academic year till March 31st 2021 and due to this fact with effect from 31st April to March 31st of yearly, primarily to get better the loss in Academic days and also to cause the session at par with all India level.
“Considering the importance of continual education, the Government of Assam has made up our minds to begin re-opening of Lower Primary schools from class I to V onwards from 1st January, 2021. On the other hand, online mode of education will continue for students who prefer to attend online classes reasonably than physically attend school,” the order further stated.
The SOP for Lower Primary (Elementary) Schools:
Classes will be held on each and every alternate day for all of the classes from class I to V.In respect of class IV & V formal classes will be conducted on each and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.In respect of class I, II and III, formal classes will be conducted on each and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.In respect of all of the classes from class I to V, classes will start from 9 am in the morning and will end at 1:45 pm, with lunch break (Mid Day Meal) from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm.The In-Charge Headperson of the lower primary school shall oversee and make sure the timing of classes, serving of Mid Day Meal, maintenance of all safety protocol relating of COVID-19 Pandemic shall be strictly done and monitored.The Residential Hostels will not operate until further orders in respect of lower primary (elementary) schools.Along with formal classes online classes will also continue whether found essential.There will be no cultural functions, meetings etc until further orders.
SOP for Upper Primary schools (class VI to VII), Secondary Schools (class IX and X) and Sr Secondary Schools (class XI and XII):
In respect of upper primary schools, secondary schools and sr secondary schools, the schools will operate in normal manner with effect from January 1, 2021, on all working school days through formal education and the schools will adhere to the timing of classes, Mid-day-Meal etc, as per norms, directions and rules enforce issued by the government every now and then prior to declaration of lockdown in the state of Assam.The Residential Hostels will not operate excluding last year students.In respect of attendance of students of upper primary schools, secondary schools and sr secondary schools, the same isn’t obligatory and will be based on parental consent.
Degree Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Teacher Training Colleges, Universities:
In respect of the above mentioned institutions, the same shall operate most often on day to day basis as per academic calendar with effect from January 1, 2021 guidelines issued by UGC/AICTE. On the other hand the head of the institution will make certain that all safety COVID-19 protocols are strictly followed.The residential hostels will not operate excluding for last year students.In respect of attending the mentioned institutions, attendance isn’t obligatory.Along with formal classes online classes will also continue whether found essential.
Protocols to be followed in case of detection of suspected case of COVID-19:
The sick student or the sick staff must be places in a room or area where they’re lonely from others.The nearest medical centre must be contacted.A risk assessment will be undertaken by the treating physician.Disinfection of the premises to be taken up whether the person is found positive.The school authorities/colleges must coordinate with the nearest health centre/joint director of health products and services, in case of emergency.All protocols as advised by health and circle of relatives welfare branch/ NHM must be followed.
