Guwahati: In view of the upward thrust in Covid-19 cases in Kamrup Metropolitan District, and to prevent its spread, in the event of detection of 1000 COVID-19 cases on a specific day, the secondary education branch authorized the Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan District regarding the closure of all Educational Institutions (Government and Non-Government), Colleges and Universities, Coaching Institutions and all category of students Hostels, till May 4, 2021.
On the other hand, Kamrup Metro administration is yet to issue an order in this regard.
Also, for the continual education process, online classes should be mandatorily conducted for the students, the notification stated further.
Earlier on Wednesday, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It’s made up our minds that the Kamrup (metro) district administration will near down all educational institutes from university to colleges and hostels whether the city registers 1000 Covid positive cases day-to-day.”
Notably, the state government had already shut down primary schools in all those districts where Covid19 cases have seen a rising trend and gone up over 100 cases. There were no less than 16 such districts in Assam where cases were rising sharply.
Alternatively, in continuation to the earlier notice in districts having over 100 COVID cases, the secondary education branch has issued extra guidelines on Thursday.
As per the notification, coaching institutes shall run with 50% capacity.
Online classes have been mandatory for students wherever essential.
Also, woman teaching / non-teaching staff who are pregnant or have children of 5 years or below shall be exempted from attending schools/coaching.
In respect of teaching and non-teaching staff, the head of the educational institutions must arrange their attendance maintaining all COVID protocols, the order stated further.
