Four NEEPCO Officials Feared Deceased In Pipeline Burst At Kopili Power Project

In an incident, a minimum of four persons Kopili hydroelectric project went lacking following a burst in a water pipeline at Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on October 7th, 2019 morning. North Eastern Electric and Power Corporation (NEEPCO) operates the project.

The lacking employees have been identified as Prem Pal Balmiki, Robert Baite and Delight Sing Timung. The National Catastrophe Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue forces have been pressed into service to rescue the lacking officials.

The burst took place in a water tunnel that carries 12,000 litres water per
second from the NEEPCO reservoir to the Kopili Hydro Power Project site. This submerged
the adjacent areas of the project.

As per information, the lacking employees were busy in some repair works when the incident took place.
