COVID 2.0: Gauhati HC restricts courts functioning; only pressing affairs to be attended
Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has restricted the functioning of all courts and would only to care for extremely pressing affairs alone.
In a notification, the court stated, “As a way to keep watch over the spread of Coronavirus in our courts and our Registries, the Full Court has already taken a couple of decisions, which restrict the working in the High Court in addition to our subordinate district courts.”
In view of a day by day surge of COVID-19 cases in the state of Assam, in addition to in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, the Chief Justice has constituted a full bench suo moto, to tackle the plights of litigants caught in this ordinary situation.
Like the other institutions, the judiciary may be battling with the crisis, and trying new means and methods to retain the court functional under these peculiar and difficult times.
