IPL 2021: England Cricketers Will Get A Break, But Not For Indian Premier League, Says Ashley Giles

Ashley Giles, the managing director of England men’s team, has said that the England and Wales Cricket (ECB) don’t seem to be planning to change their schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The suspended 14th edition of the IPL is likely to be played in UAE in the September 15 to October 15 window with the Board of Keep an eye on for Cricket in India (BCCI) having a look at a 25-day window for the cash-rich league. Speaking to ANI, sources in the realize of developments have said that the BCCI is having a look to host the 31 games in 25 days given the COVID-19 situation is in keep watch over.

“See, at present, all plans want to be made keeping the COVID-19 situation in brain. But yes, tentatively, we are having a look at the September 15 to October 15 window. We want to have 25 days to total the league,” the source said.

Giles while admitted that few players might be rested right through that phase, he asserted that the “intention of giving guys a break wouldn’t be for them to go and play cricket elsewhere.”

“We’re going to have to give a few of these guys a break in the future. But the intention of giving guys a break for, say, Bangladesh, wouldn’t be for them to go and play cricket elsewhere,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Giles as saying.

“We need to manage our schedule now, so we get our guys arriving in the most efficient shape conceivable for the T20 World Cup and the Ashes,” he added.

India and England will lock horns in a five-match Test series starting in August. Giles also confirmed that England had no plans to tweak the schedule of the series.

“I am not aware of anything official, any requests to shift anything,” said Giles.

“So far as we’re concerned and what we’re prepared for, the matches will be where they’re. I am not surprised there’s all sorts of hypothesis. Everyone wants to receive their cricket in. But we’ve not received anything official and we’re cracking on.

“We have a full schedule. Whether we go from the end of the fifth Test in September, we are set to leave for Bangladesh on September 19 or 20. We have a full schedule all the way through including Pakistan and wherever the T20 World Cup is,” he added.
