Native scribe allegedly beaten up for reporting on gambling activities


Guwahati: When the whole country is talking approximately freedom of speech and reporting of a journalist after Arnab Goswami’s episode, in yet another unprecedented incident, a native scribe of a regional day by day was once allegedly beaten up by miscreants for reporting on gambling activities in Mirza, Assam.

According to reports, the journalist named Milan Mahanta was once shopping at a native market when a man named ‘Sanjay Thakuria’ confronted Mahanta with few other men and started abusing him for reporting on unlawful gambling activities.

He was once therefore dragged, tied to and light post and thrashed.

The journo was once later rescued after large crowds gathered around the incident that unshackled him and took him to a nearby pharmacy to receive him checked.

The miscreants threatened the journalist and managed to flee the scene later.

A complaint has been filed by Mahanta at Palashbari police station soon after and an investigation is underway.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti of Assam has condemned the incident and also demanded for reasonable inquiry over the matter.

It can be mentioned here that, the incident occurred days after another journalist, Parag Bhuyan, was once killed in an alleged hit-and-run case in Kakopathar town of Tinsukia.
