Guwahati: Parts of city declared ‘Safe area’
Guwahati: So as to keep watch over the entry of unauthorised persons into Assam Civil Secretariat, the Kamrup (M) administration has declared some parts of the capital city as secure areas.
A notification by district commissioner stated, “I Biswajit Pegu, IAS, District magistrate, Kamrup Metropolitan, District, Guwahati, in exercise of powers conferred upon me U/S 8E read with section 2 of the Assam Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1947 do hereby order and declare the scheduled areas as ‘PROTECTED AREA’ under section 8 of the aforesaid Act with effect from 5th July/2021 until further orders of modification/revocation/cancellation or withdrawal.”
The areas declared as secure are:
East – Southern side of the GS Street starting from Ganeshguri Flyover up to Super Market police Point.
South – 60ft Road starting from Super Market Police Point to Final Gate.
West – from Final Gate along the RP Street up to entry point ALA.
North – From Ganesh Mandir up to Ganeshguri Chariali.
No person or group of persons, with the exception of the bonafide residents and public servants shall enter into or stay in or pass over or loiter in or around the scheduled area without prior permission.
Violation of this order by any person shall be liable to be punished under Sub-Section (5) of Section 8 F of the Act.
