Guwahati: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today held a review assembly with the Food and Civil Supplies Branch at his official residence to take inventory of the price hike scenario of fundamental food items all over the most recent COVID-19 wave in the state. Top officials of FCI, NF Railway also attended the assembly.
Saying that price hike of fundamental food items like lentils, onions, potatoes, etc cannot be allowed to take place all over this time of the pandemic, Sonowal stated such price rise would impact the already distressed people and directed the Food and Civil Supplies Branch to vigorously engage its officials to check the go-downs for to be had inventory of food products while minimizing import cost of essentials items from out of doors the state. He also instructed the officials of the branch to hold meetings with district chambers of trade for keeping the prices under check.
“All over the first wave of the pandemic in the state, the chambers of trade had extended full beef up in government’s efforts to curb price rise of food items and this time also they will have to be approached for helping the cause,” the Chief Minister said while urging the NF Railway officials to facilitate smooth transport of food items to Assam like in the time of the first wave of COVID19. He also urged the railways to engage the contractual laborers, employed in loading and unloading, in shifts in order that they don’t get exhausted.
Emphasizing the want to work as a team by all stakeholders to conquer this crisis, Sonowal stressed on the control the prices of food items to reduce discrepancies in prices between quite a lot of districts.
Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami and other top officials of concerned departments were present in the assembly.
