GUWAHATI: Assam government has determined to release Remdesivir doses to non-resident Assamese and private nursing homes.
State’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the state right now has a inventory of 25, 000 doses of Remdesivir injection.
Sarma said, “State health branch has determined to give Remdesivir doses to private nursing home patients on the production of legitimate documents at the government rate. On production of the essential documents, a patient can buy the doses from Gauhati medical college (GMCH) hospital at Rs Rs 1568 per vile.”
The decision was once taken after a recent trend has highlighted that patients admitted in private nursing homes have succumbed to the virus. In many cases, unavailability of Remdesivir doses or nursing homes charging bizarre prices for the injection were also reported.
“We have kept a inventory of 2500 doses of Remdesivir injection one by one for nursing homes. A patient can get it from GMCH on payment,” said Sarma adding that another inventory of a few 1000 doses of Remdesivir injections was once also kept one by one for non- resident Assamese people.
Sarma added, “Many Assamese people living in other parts of the country were also found to be admitted in hospitals because of Covid 19. They are able to also avail Remdesivir does from us on payment.”
