GUWAHATI: Army gunned down one NSCN (K-NK) ultra and apprehended two others in a counter-insurgency operation at Baimho village of Zunheboto in Nagaland on Wednesday night. Arms and ammunition were also retrieved in the operation.
According to the Army, the ultras were killed in an exchange of fires after the militants attacked army sleuths on duty.
PRO Defence, Lt Col Harsh Wardhan Pande said, “On Wednesday night, right through a search operation based on intelligence inputs approximately armed cadres in village Baimho, Zunheboto, security forces were fired upon by insurgents.”
He added, “In retaliatory fire, two cadres of NSCN K-NK were apprehended, including one in injured condition, and immediately evacuated to the district hospital by the police, where he succumbed to his injuries.”
One 9mm pistol, four fired cartridge cases and 23 live rounds were also retrieved from the spot.
Two native men apprehended at the site were later released to their parents in the presence of the police and the Gaon Budha.
Earlier on September 4 too, based on particular intelligence inputs, security forces in conjunction with representatives of Nagaland police launched an operation and apprehended one active cadre of NSCN (K-NK) close Burma Camp, Dimapur in Nagaland and seized firearms.
