GUWAHATI: The city police have banned any victory procession by any political party or meeting at any public place all the way through and after the ballot counting on May 2.

In an order issued on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, said that no more than two persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his or her authorised representative to get the certificate of election from the returning officer after the results are out.

The order added, “Sale, purchase and bursting of firecrackers in the area under Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, is prohibited. Meeting of five or more person at any public place inside the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati is prohibited.”

Use of loudspeakers and any public gathering out of doors the counting centre all the way through the process of counting were also prohibited.

The city police have warned that any violation would be dealt with legitimate action.

This order shall come into force with instant effect, it said.
