GUWAHATI: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has asked the state government to accelerate the process of fulfilling the promises made to the community in the recently signed Memorandum of Settlement with the government.
The student body while demanded to rename of Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) as Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) comprising area covered under BTAD, also asked to include Bodo as one of the crucial associate official languages in the state.
An ABSU delegation led by its president, Dipen Boro met the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday here and submitted a memorandum citing the demands.
Boro said, “The assembly was once fruitful and we have urged the state government to execute the more than a few clauses of the BTR accord as soon as conceivable. We have also requested to establish a Bodo-Kachari Welfare Council (Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council).”
ABSU also demanded to include Bodo-Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts in the ST (Hill) list of Assam in a time-bound manner.
“The key demands included budget provisions for state-related institutions of the BTR Accord, rehabilitation of the NDFB members and withdrawal of heinous and non-heinous crimes by the state government,” Boro added.
The delegation said that the CM has assured them of all essential steps.
